Baby Food, Store Bought vs. Homemade
Babies are some of the best gifts in the world. So why do we choose to feed them stuff that we probably would not eat ourselves? Before my sister had her first baby shower, I never really thought much about baby food, it’s nutritional value, or it’s taste. At my sister’s baby shower, one of the games was to taste two kinds of baby food. I tried them and they tasted aweful. It seems that manufactures don’t care much about taste. They chose to mix two different foods together which did not go together well at all. This also got me thinking what other things were they putting in this stuff that they don’t tell you about. I know there are additional chemicals to increase the food’s shelf life. I’m sorry but I’m not a big fan of pumping my kid with chemicals. When my son was old enough to start eating, we made his baby food. All you need is a blender and a food processor. My son’s favorite was green peas. When we were having green peas with our dinner, we cooked extra and pureed some in the blender for him. He loved them, and we loved knowing what was in his food. It’s also cheaper to make your own baby food. Store bought baby food is expensive and the prices are still rising. Make a large batch of your own baby food and you can freeze it in the freezer in ice cube trays. When it’s time to feed your baby, pop out a cube and thaw it with a little warm water.
